Chandrika: Tagore was thrown at some level against his will from the security of his urban Calcutta existence to managing his father's estates in rural Bengal. He spent most of his time traveling by houseboat that the family owned, moving down the Padma River, visiting various households and householders. And this greatly influenced not just his attitude towards rural reconstruction and social reform, particularly amongst the peasantry, but also his poetry.
