I think experts on this kind of violence would agree that families that go through these experiences are very hard on themselves. And I think this is something that happened to us. There is a lot of guilt and there's shame in a mourning process that actually never quite begins. So if the story cannot be told, if you cannot rest this story from the patriarchal narrative ... then you cannot mourn properly.
