i'm the child of a country, the democratic republic of congo, that's been at war for at least 20 years. I absorbed hundreds of years of eastern european history. All this came to mind when russia invaded ukraine in february. As someone whose job it is now to craft stories as a journalist since the war started, i can't pull my eyes away from the stories we tell about ukraine and how we formulate them.
