The Great Revolt of the New Model Army
By the end of spring, there were at least six different regions in revolt. fairfax had to break up the new model army to go deal with them all individually and simultaneously. After fairfax defeated norwich's hastily raised army at maidstone, the remaining royalists retreated to the city of colchester. Fairfax tried to storm the city in mid june, but he was repulsed and forced to settle into what became an 11 weeks siege. It turned out to be one of the nastiest, coldest and wettest summers in english history.
