Is There a Quotation or Illusion in Revelation?
Revelation contains more Old Testament illusions than any other New Testament book, but it doesn't record a single explicit quotation. So which one was John really thinking of? It's hard to figure out what he's doing and this discouraged scholars from spending a lot of time in this line of inquiry. I think that the key question is what John does by his allusions to the Old Testament, he's going to interpret it in light of his experience with Jesus,' says David Frum.
