How Important Is It for an Emerging Screenwriter to Write in the Same Genre?

I like to keep that percolating even in just weird images or bits of dialogue or scene ideas, you know, call it a melting pot because it is ultimately a right brain experience. There's been so much time studying screenwriting and reading all the books about screenwriting. If you're not actually also writing, none of it's going in your brain. None of it's actually proving brain cells or changing brain cells. How important is it for an emerging screenwriter to write work in the same genre? Are there other ways of establishing your brand to get noticed? I actually heard this question to somebody else at Boston and they said the best way to do it is to have a brand
