In the quest for freedom, we begin to economize on our relationships. We're surrounded by a lot of people, but nobody's really close to us. And I'll tell you what makes this even harder for a person with any kind of influence is it seems like everybody wants something. It feels like every phone call, every email, every, hey, let's get together. What does that do to a leader? It pushes us again into a smaller and smaller circle of trusted friends before long.
