How to Speed Up the Safety Car Progress
The cars are given a leeway of 10 car links that they have to maintain but what will happen as they become entrained behind the safety car is that they will seek to time those time that distance so that they can keep their tires and brakes warm. If you think about 20 cars 10 car links apart they don't look really bunched up but for the purposes of the marshals working on track they are once they get there. i think it's also maybe just tv makes it look a little worse than it actually is some cars go even further back than 10 car links occasionally what happened at monza.
