Being able to speak English has no determinant on on how integrated you are and and how you measure that. I think the example you give of the Singaporeans having people in Singapore having something taken away from them versus people coming to Singapore or wanting to be part of Singapore is two very different things. It's a marker that saying that saying English is an important part of being Singaporean right? That trickles down to a lot of other things as well in thinking about language policy in the country, he says.
