The Demographics of the Decline in Enrollment

A college degree really does grant an earnings premium to students who attend and complete a four-year degree. The earnings premium going to college workers was rising tremendously in the 1980s and 1990s when demand for college level skills took off. Since 2000, that wage premium has stalled but is still tremendously high. In a typical year, let's just take 2019 before the pandemic, you know, someone with aFour-year college degree on average would make about 88% more a year than a full-time full-year worker with just a high school degree.
