The Relationship Between the Microbiome and the Brain
How are the microbes in the gut communicating with the brain which is far away and that's a great question. One of the ways is we have this nerve it's called the vagus nerve now vagus comes from the same origins as words like vagabond and vagrant it means wandering. We showed in our mouth studies well over a decade ago now that when we cut the vagus all of the effects of a specific lactobacillus were gone so as I like to remind people this tells us that what happens in vagus doesn't just stay in vagus but will affect our emotions. Our immune system talks directly to our brain so if we change our immune system we change our brain
