Conciliarism and the Great Schism
In its most basic, stripped-down form, conciliarism called for a general council of the church. This great council would embody the entire church and hold ultimate authority over it. It meant to ground the church in a corporate membership rather than the sole leadership of the pope. To explicitly fight for the supremacy of councils went in the face of centuries of precedent and doctrine.
