"There's no connection between the amount of time or effort we put into a project and how good it gets," he says. "Unless you do the work, you never know if it could be better." He adds that sometimes when an artist is playing a song in the recording studio, there's a momentum that's generated where it's getting better or hanging around the same area. And then there's a time when it gets worse.
