In the 90s Bono's political activism picked up ever since he traveled to Central America and Ethiopia in the 80s. He was deeply moved by poverty in Africa and AIDS his wife would work with children who survived Chernobyl. There's nothing to suggest that Bono is ever insincere with his charity work but like all big things they can get crooked fast.
