Ashley Deeks: Much of what states are doing at this point is a pretty deep secret and they've been pretty reticent to say much about how they are building AI into their existing tools. But I think we know that militaries and intelligence services for sure are interested in ramping up their use of AI, says Deeks. The kinds of things I have in mind are algorithms which will help militaries predict when somebody poses an imminent threat to their forces or militaries that are using tools that are AI enabled like facial recognition software. Maybe the militaries will use these tools to help detect whether a given building that they're seeing via satellite imagery houses missiles.
