St Helena and the Falkland Islands are not part of the UK but they are considered British overseas territories. Ireland is also not in any shape or form it's completely independent from the UK. These UK governments these UK government responsibilities are assigned to various departments of the foreign and Commonwealth office so that's why people are not so sure about these things because it's bloody confusing.
To qualify for British citizenship, one of the requirements is to pass the "Life in the UK" test.
