Motherhood is an institution that, you know, Adrienne Rich suggested needed to be abolished by paradoxically mothering. It just kept the sense I can't look after myself and push me in the direction of freedom of water. There's a beautiful philosophical tradition of thinking about how those who were never meant to survive must learn to Mother themselves or ourselves.
