There is an interesting tension between the helistic nature of biology and engineering. Biology simultaneously operates at everything from atomic scale to ego systems. We don't really have any idea how to think about engineering ego systems, that's a frontier that remains mostly unexplored. There's a lot to discover and a lot to learn before we get there.
