Breathe and Count Back from 10 by Natalia Sylvester is the only YA or middle grade on Katie's top 10 list this year. The main character Viro Veronica has hip dysplasia that requires regular surgery and physical therapy. She really wants to work at mermaid cove, where humans swim underwater and pretend to be mermaids. There's some YA relationship drama and lying to parents in this one but it felt so much like genuine pain and heartbreak.
