Cap Hit Calculation

If a player is signed to a one year contract after the start of the NHL season, that contract is subject to a unique cap hit calculation. This is all to just prevent like late season shenanigans. So there is actually an example of this that I can remember. The difference was the Leafs did it in like late October, early November. If you look up, go look up Roman Polak salary history, you'll find it. Because his cap hit, if I'm not mistaken, was higher than what the Leafs had actually signed him to.
