Introduction

Baptism isn't just kind of a symbol of the beginning of the Christian life, but in a sense it's a summary of the whole thing. The illustration every Presbyterian preacher seems to like to use to describe baptism as a symbol is the wedding ring. With this water, God the weds, right? There's an exchange of vowels. There's a creating of a new entity, right? A marriage of these two persons,. okay? Well, that is in a very simple way what we mean when we say that baptism is a sacrament. It's a sign and seal of the new covenant  in Christ.
