The Transfer of Knowledge
Andi i first came across the notion of transfer when i was at carnegie melon. The cognitive science department there is one of the leaders in this area. For many years, they were really struggling with thea that if you learn something in one area, canyou just pick it up and move it to another area and be good at it? This whole notion of transfer is really important. I've been teaching it in my class the sinester. We tend to think about meti cognition and reflection and these big picture issues that move us into understanding how discourse plays out in a particular discipline. But then i keep thinking, are we getting all the stuff we need to do?
