The Rise of Women in Burma

As women stepped up to the front lines and fought alongside their male comrades, it became hard to ignore the sexism which underpinned much of traditional Burmese culture. The music you just heard from a yang-on punk band called Rebel Riot, they gave us permission to use it here. They have some great songs about the spring revolution and this one focuses on the role of women. Myanmar might previously have had a woman leader, but gender equality had been far from universal.
