The Role of John the Baptist in the Life of Jesus

John the Baptist seems to have been a particularly popular prophetic style, millenarian style figure the time. He clearly predicts something dramatic, some dramatic supernatural intervention in the human and future. There is an overlap with Jesus and the Jesus movement, maybe to the point that they were even active side by side but not necessarily in conflict with one another. The thing very likely that Jesus knew that his actions would lead to his death because it's exactly what happens to any kind of figure who has a following in certain context.
