Did Maxwell's Aha Moment Happen?

I'm wondering if you would know anymore about the history of it because I've heard this story about Maxwell's aha moment. For instance, he knew that what light was going to turn out to be an electromagnetic wave before his math showed him that just on dimensional grounds. We can understand so much through the help of this crazy fictional thing that involves infinity. It's almost like we're in the sweet spot for pleasure in doing science and math. If we were much smarter than we are, we wouldn't be surprised.
