Knox's Conversion to Protestantism
A lot of the facts that we have are from him. We don't know about his conversion to Protestantes and even, which would seem like quite an important thing to be aware of. He clearly has a kind of comfortable middle class existence if you want to call it that. But I think the idea that for Knox history doesn't begin until he becomes a Protestant is very important. For Knox in writing his history, he's so keen to purvey an idea that Scotland in some sense has and always will be Protestant. So much of what we know about Knox comes from his own writing so that if he doesn't give us that story then it makes it very difficult.
