Is There an Equivalent Job Title to What You're Doing in Australia?

I don't know how any one could do this roll without a legal background. I wouldn't have understood that as a junior lawyer, just how far my career could possibly go simply by having the bachelor vorce and practising as a solicitor. This might be a stupid question, but is there an equivalent job title here in australia to what you're doing right now? You mention the idea of being a chief of staff for a politician, but i'm not really aware  of any chiefs of staff or families here in Australia. Does such a thing exist here?
