At a conference, Noah Diffenbau said academic freedom at Stanford was rock solid and he saw no major threats to it. Aaron Carroll: How refreshing would it be to hear a university president talk about academic freedom that way now? When there's been 21 attempts to get professors fired at Stanford since just since 2014, we know that only about most of those involve a back and forth with the Hoover institution. He says 60% of those 800 professors are punished in some way; 40 tenured professors have been fired for teaching or research.
