Thessalonica was a diverse city. A bunch of cultures coming together with trade routes and the connection through the empire. If you looked 50 miles to the south was Mount Olympus. The worship of the Greek gods is in the mix of their culture as well. And then the last and maybe most influential was the worship of the Roman emperor.
