I keep getting stories from friends about the destruction of research on the whim of an IRB. I remember that when it came time for our IRB audit, we had to close down like the entire lab. And if the research had been absolutely first rate and relevant to some really pressing issue, they still would have said, here's this information you've collected,. Nobody's been harmed in getting it and it can't be used. The comments were all things like: "The color of the pen that you used, it's a different shade of blue than we want"
