Men, women and children may map out and value things differently in your experience. One of the advantages of these methods is that if you convene people to do some matrix scoring they can get a longer list of indicators than expected. And for children, things emerge which otherwise would not have been recognized. For instance, dogs often come up as being a major problem for children, which adults don't recognize.

Robert Chambers is a British academic and development practitioner. He spent his academic career at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. In 2013, he became an honorary fellow of the International Institute of Social Studies.
