Is the Selection of a Book Part of the Canon?
There are always going to be judgments. Whether you're publishing a list of modern classics back in the 19 forties, or the late 19 forties,. There will always be books that are left out. Bitall the judges need tol be more, more diverse. And i think once we've seen over the past years, some of those judges being more diverse, you've been able to see it's not only the selection that they make. It's because those writers actually then feel more confident and more encouraged to actually have their work submitted for that prize. They'll think, why? Why am i bothering to submit? Because there's no understanding, real understanding there of my work.
