The Macapans Gap Pebble

The Macapans gap pebble is special because it was found in 1920s alongside a collection of Australopithecus africanus remains that date to about 3 million years ago. The only answer that's been given at the moment is that it must have been carried there by an early hominid. But why did they carry it there? There's no use-wear on it.
