Working Class History

CHAPTER

The Strike That Breaked the Camels Back

Workers were forced to work over time constantly, and that was only just one of the problems with how workers at the plant were treated. Discipline at the company was also harsh and arbitrary. Eventually, on the 20th of August, 1976, came the straw that broke the camel's back and the strike began. It started with four workers walked out of the factory one afternoon. One was sacked and three others walked out. J.A.V.N. Decide became the leader of the strike.
