The Asset Versus the Deficit Narrative
The focus on community, building community and really stressing "belonging" was important. The presumption though, of course, was that you have an obstacle. You're from the south side of the west side of chicago. What's your obstacle? That'sthe cent narrative. So instead, we flipped that too. We couldn't do this in the first year, but shortly thereafter, we would say, look, arupe is an extraordinary community.
