The Relationship Between Sexual Deviance and Political Radicalism
Sally Kohn: I found queer theory really generative in my own intellectual formation. But it often ends up falling into this peculiar and to my mind, untenable trap of celebrating sexual diversity as resistance. It doesn't seem to me that being into S&M or being queer is in any way kind of useful as a political project. She says the more grammeshian cultural studies approach allows us to understand how we submit to and involve ourselves in our own marginalization without seeing that as false consciousness.
