Robeson never publicly reconsidered his early support of the Soviet Union or its leaders. After Stalin's death in 1953, Robeson published a eulogy that was full of effusive praise. He seems to have been concerned that if he denounced anything the Soviet Union was doing, it would feed into anti-Soviet and anti-communist fervor.
