The Mesika Rebellion of Tenoctitlan
Just over 400 spaniards, cortes among them, did manage to fight their way across the causeway to safety. Reasonable estimate for the number of spanish killed on this night is around 600. Thousands of their tlashcalan allies were massacred. The people of tenoctitlan had delivered the most crushing defeat ever inflict on european colonists in the new world. We can tell what was on his mind because he asked after only one person that night, he checked that expedition's chief shipbuilder was still alive.
