The History of Roman Catholicism
Gnosticism and Manic-eism proliferated, both being Christ-centered religions but ones that were utterly different than what we call Christianity today. Roman Catholicism's drive toward orthodoxy came in response to a cyclone of divergent trends which nearly splintered into several equally legitimate branches after Jesus lived. These alternate Christianities linger among the pages of the New Testament like ghosts.
