A lot of times people don't get any feedback on why they didn't get accepted for a job. In dating, sometimes it's because people feel awkward about communicating that information or they worry the person will react badly. If you reach out to people, if you make a good first impression, then they'll be much more likely to speak to you. So in a 15, 20 minute phone call, you're already getting real feedback on how you come across.
