The beauty industrial complex is confounding for feminists everywhere because people have conflicting opinions about what it symbolizes. On one end of the spectrum, there's a perspective that traditional feminine beauty ideals are staunchly oppressive. The average American woman spends $3,756 per year on her beauty and personal care regimen. Her male counterpart spends roughly 22% less or around $2,900 per year.
