Weep Over the Grave of an Israeli Soldier
In Israel, in Hebrew thinking it takes a man to weep. That's why Jesus wept openly over Jerusalem as Jeremiah does here. In English public school stoicism, taken from Greek stoicism, says, don't wear your heart and your sleeve and keep a stiff upper lip. It is cruel to the bereaved to say, oh, she was so brave, she never shed a tear. We need to help people to get it out. And both the Jews and the Catholics are the best at handling bereavement because they have a tradition of wakes when they encourage tears. Throughout the Bible, tears are encouraged. Get it out. Don't suppress it, but I'm afraid English public
