Christians believe that god exists and has revealed his will and his moral law for us in the bible. And when you approach it from that perspective, it's not going to work with everyone. Even if history goes in a completely different direction in terms of what is morally acceptable than where christians are, just because it goes in that direction doesn't mean that that was necessarily the right direction. It all turns on how you define that.
