The Aversion to Absolutism in Animal Experiments

I think it's very difficult to be an absolutist about animal experiments you know because then you give that easy response to your opponents they say something like well look suppose your child could be saved by doing an experiment on one mass does that mean you shouldn't do the experiment and you should allow your child to die right? So I think actually it's a stronger position if you acknowledge that this is not a blanket prohibition. It's saying that most animal experimentation fails to give any serious consideration to the interests of the animals, often it inflicts great suffering on animals for no benefit at all for humans. That's another example of this general attitude that we have to animals which I call species
