The Connection Between Rome and the Hellenistic World
The connections between the Greeks and Romans go rather far back. Greek colonies have been established in East and South Italy for many generations. It seems that the Romans were somewhat recognized as a major player in Italy by Greek authors in the 5th and 4th centuries. The invasion of Piers of Epirus in 280 was Rome's very violent introduction to the new political dynamics of the Hellenistic world.
