Bird's Interest in Long Distance Flying

Pierre Bird was a member of the US Navy who explored Greenland from the air. He also flew to the South Pole in 1929 with three other blokes, including Ashley McKinley and Harold June. After World War II he had to give up exploring to go on fight but then went straight back into the Antarctic.
