The 1917 Russian Revolution sparked quite a reaction in the bastion of capitalism in America. The Sedition Act gave the government carte blanche to crack down on anything seen as subversive. During World War I, tens of thousands of African Americans served in the US army fighting in Europe. Politicians and their collaborators in the media created this narrative that African American soldiers would return from Europe were in essence communist agents. With the prevailing racism of the time, those two kind of married each other, resulting in horrific race riots.
