GK Chesterton would often invoke mysticism as a way to acknowledge the awareness that there has to be something more than material realities. Science is always saying that the other world, if it exists, is too distant to be seen. Religion is always saying it is too close to being seen. We all feel the riddle of the earth without anyone to point it out. The mystery of life is the plainest part of it. These are the daily weather of this world.
