The Mars Design Reference Mission 5.0 was studying how far do sand grains go on Mars from a big giant, like a 40 ton rocket. The thing that goes to farthest, just over 700 meters, is p gravel. Dust will get all the way up to the speed of the rocket exhaust. But as soon as it hits the ambient atmosphere, it's going to stop.
