I Can Never Step Into the Same River Again
Heraclitus said all things flow, and that he was the great believer in the continuity of everything. The idea there is of an eddy in a river or a whirlpool in a river. And I think that what we call things, and indeed what we ourselves are, are if you like, vortices, eddies within the larger business of the ever-changing, ever-creative flow. Even democracies said that the becoming of all things lies in the vortex.
